A ‘frozen’ dinner party and a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from dish’d

This is a sponsored post brought to you by Nuffnang and dish’d

Well it’s not that type of “frozen” if you are thinking of princesses and sparkles! But literally a dinner party based on the delivery of the frozen meals from dish’d.

When I think of frozen foods I think of the McCain meals or Lite and Easy meals when I feel I need to try that dieting thing again (yes that rare occurrence that doesn’t last long!)

With bub number two on its way anything that is going to make my life easier is most welcome.

In the third trimester, the theory is I should be cooking up a storm and freezing down meals ready for when we come home with the baby. However I seriously just don’t have the energy or the motivation to do a massive cook up at the moment and outsourcing sounds VERY appealing.

There are some companies out there that deliver frozen meals but when dish’d approached me to try out their range I could have kissed them on the lips if they were a person. Good timing! This could be the solution to my outsourcing dream!

So what is dish’d? dish’d is a new and exciting way to experience delicious food from around the world in the comfort of your own home. They have a range of high quality meals and desserts, all frozen to retain their nutritional and taste credentials, waiting to be enjoyed…when you are (or right NOW in my case). Whats more renowned and multi-award winning chef Jacques Reymond has joined their team and is creating some sensational food experiences.

So I thought what better way to try it out but have some friends over (ahem guinea pigs!) to trial these frozen meals and see if you can really do a dinner party this way. Love a dinner party – especially when you can add a little bit of Christmas at this time of year.

photo(7)I’m dubious …but the site was easy to use to quickly order online (there was so many choices!). You have the option to be delivered to my door the next day – yes seriously you can order by 10pm the night before and have it the next day – perfect!! The only thing to know is they only deliver to Melbourne and Sydney metro at the moment but it is all packed up in a sealed polystyrene box lined with dry ice pellets and as long as it remains in the shade your foods will remain frozen until 10pm on the day of delivery.

There was so much food and the price were surprisingly reasonable. This could be the best dinner party ever!

There were choices for single meal frozen meals (more mid- week) to ideas for large party finger foods. Perfect for the party season! Fantastic, where do I sign?

The food arrived on time the day before – ready for defrosting on the day.

Check out the spread! We went for some fingers foods to start.

Followed by your more traditional eye fillets with sides. The eye fillet was frozen and just needed some seasoning and accompaniments. The potato dauphinois were divine (!!) total restaurant style and chimichurri rice packed a punch (in a good way- Pappa Raj was very happy as he loves some spice). Some of the vegetables were enveloped in some butter so no need to add in anything extra when cooking. Some items do require cooking (and you have this choice if you want something to cook like an eye fillet rather than just microwave meals) but if you have no time like most busy mums getting this delivered to your door is better than trying to get out of the house at the last minute with children swinging off your hips.

Timing is still of the essence, just like any dinner party. I have shared my ability to just make things go wrong on many occasions otherwise known to my family as doing a “Caz” and this was no exception. I was so organised writing down prep times but it appeared I forgot to read them when the action was taking place – doh! Like popping into the oven the potatoes at the beginning not at the end (!!) and the red meat was VERY red and needed an emergency rescuing. I tried to stay calm as this meal couldn’t have been easier to cook and I’m embarrassed to say I still didn’t get the timing right. Please tell me this doesn’t just happen to me?? Anyway with a bit of time and TLC we got there and seemed to have some happy customers.

And check out this awesome Chocolate Ganache and Salted Caramel Tart and sorbet tumblers-yum! Nothing better than an impressive dessert to finish off a meal and I’m definitely not the best dessert baker so this makes it much easier!

This is totally what is going to get me through entertaining in the festive season with cankles and a need for numerous naps. Pricewise they are really competitive – on par the supermarket and so easy when you are a busy mum.

So if you are salivating like we were tonight I can go one better.

The lovely people at dish’d have given Mamma Raj a $50 dish’d voucher to give away to one lucky reader to try yourself. Just leave a comment on this post to go into the draw and let Mamma Raj know “What about the dish’d service appeals to you?”
